Do I need experience to start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

No. Most students start with zero experience. You start with a trial where you meet the instructor and learn foundational movements in a safe, beginner-friendly group.

What ages do you teach?

Kids ages 6-8 and 9-12, teens 13+, and adults of all levels. We also offer women's self-defense and private lessons.

How much does it cost to try a class?

Am I too old or out of shape to start jiu-jitsu?

No. You get in shape by training, and classes scale to your pace. We have adult students across a wide range of ages, with many starting in their 30s, 40s, and beyond.

Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu effective for self-defense?

Yes. BJJ is one of the most effective self-defense systems because most confrontations end up at close range or on the ground, where control and leverage matter more than size or striking.

Is jiu-jitsu safe for kids?

Yes. Our kids classes run in a supervised, structured environment that emphasizes control, respect, and technique over roughness.

What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable athletic clothing without zippers, buttons, or pockets, such as shorts and a t-shirt or rash guard, plus a water bottle. You do not need a gi for your trial.

What does tapping mean in jiu-jitsu?

Tapping, a tap on your partner or the mat, is how you safely signal to stop when caught in a submission or when uncomfortable. It is a normal, essential part of training that keeps everyone safe.

How often should I train?

Two to three classes per week is a great starting point for steady progress while allowing recovery. You can attend more as your conditioning and confidence grow.
